    IELP now hiring part time ESL Instructors.

    Sessions starting October 2023
    (Philadelphia-based, in-person)

    OVERVIEW
    Part Time ESL Instructors are responsible for the planning and delivery of ESL classes within the curriculum of the intensive English language program (IELP). Instructors are expected to plan lessons, activities, homework, and formative assessments for the entire session. The IELP curriculum provides course objectives, textbooks, and end-of-level assessment, but teachers have a lot of autonomy in lesson planning and curriculum implementation. Regular, timely, reporting on attendance, student performance, and some other administrative functions are essential to this position.  
     
    Approximate Breakdown of Duties 
    70% classroom instruction 
    20% preparation, assessment, curriculum 
    10% meetings and administration 


    COMPENSATION
    This is a part-time, contract position. Starting rate:
    $46/hour with Master’s
    $50/hour with Ph.D.
    30% of preparation time is paid for each hour of teaching.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    - Must hold a master’s degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or a closely related field, and two years’ experience teaching English to adults;
    - Excellent oral and written communication skills in English 
    Demonstrated knowledge of language teaching methodology and assessment practices;
    - Demonstrated ability to work with a highly diverse population;
    - Ability to work legally in the US.
     
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    - Experience teaching abroad and experience in university-based intensive English programs;
    - Experience developing materials and assessments in academic English programs;
    - Fluency in additional languages;
    - Experience with Canvas, Microsoft Teams, and educational technology. 
     
    SCHEDULE
    Specific schedules can vary from session to session, but it is common for instructors to teach one or two classes per 7-week session, each of which is from 4 to 6 hours of teaching per week.

    Registration is now open for TLC's 9th Annual Conference 

    Building Connections: Strengthening Our Digital Equity Community, which will be held on Thursday October 5th at Temple University.

     

    Timed to coincide with National Digital Inclusion Week, the conference will feature guest speakers, breakout sessions, and more. This year's theme is a reflection that, as we plan and prepare for a historic infusion of federal funding for digital equity work, we must prioritize expanding and strengthening our community--now and for the long term.

     

    Interested in presenting at the conference? Our call for breakout session topics is now open! You have until Friday Sept 15th to submit your session idea. Breakout sessions will be one hour in length, and will likely feature multiple speakers. Please take a few minutes to let us know what you are interested in speaking about at the conference, and we will review submissions and attempt to match presenters up by topic to create engaging and informative sessions.     Adjunct ESL Faculty Openings at Delaware Technical Community College

    Wilmington and Stanton, Delaware Campuses


    The Department of Language is seeking qualified ESL instructors to staff its growing IEP credit-based ESL programfor the coming fall 2023 semester (starting 8/28/23). Classes are held in-person at our Wilmington and/or Stanton Campus locations (northern DE).

    • Staffing options may include teaching Reading, Writing, Grammar, and/or Listening & Speaking courses in the Beginner, Intermediate, and/or Upper (pre-academic)  levels.
    • 4-13 hours per week options, depending on class(es) taught.
    • Very reasonable class sizes (12-15, on average).

    The Providence Center urgently needs a teacher for an online ESL class that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:00. The current teacher had to leave and they are looking for someone to immediately take over the class through mid-July. There is a textbook.
