Submission Categories and Guidelines

PennTESOL-East welcomes submissions from members for publication in PTEvoices. 

Categories

We accept articles that fall into these general categories:

• Best Practices - practitioner-oriented, research-based
• Success Stories - interview of an inspiring student, colleague, or expert; Q&A or narrative format
• Teaching Tip - lesson plan, classroom activity, reflection on classroom experience
• Graduate Student Perspectives
• Book Reviews

Guidelines

Our publication follows guidelines created for the TESOL Newsletter. Submissions should:

• follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th Ed.)
• be copy ready (with proper grammar, spelling, etc.)
• have a title in ALL CAPS
• have a byline:  author’s name, email address, affiliation, city, country
• have a 50-word teaser (abstract). 
• have a 2- to 3-sentence bio at the end for each author
• be no longer than 1,750 words (including tables and citations). 
• contain no more than five citations
• be formatted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Notepad (.txt or .rtf)
• not have photos or other graphics embedded in the Word file (see Pictures below). Photos and other graphics should be submitted in the same email message as the text.

Pictures

• Please do not embed photos, figures, and other graphics in the text of the submission. Include each one in a separate file instead.
• Please include photo captions and, if you have them, photographer credits. Please include the names of each person appearing in the photo whenever possible.
• Please submit a headshot of yourself (alone) with your article (in the same message). Your  photo must be: 
  • a head and shoulder shot 
  • a JPG file 
  • width = 120px height = 160px 
• All photos must be
  • clear, clean, professional, appropriate to the article 
  • attached as a separate file in the same email as your article
  • File format: GIF, JPG, JPEG
  • Maximum file size: 1MB
  • Quality: Low Resolution (Web quality) 200 dpi

Deadlines and Notes

• Submissions for the Fall issue are due August 15; submissions for the Spring issue are due February 15.

• Authors should submit a brief bio (2-3 sentences) and a high-quality head shot for publication with the article.

• PennTESOL-East reserves the right to edit all manuscripts for clarity, brevity, and style; the editors will consult with contributors on substantive revisions. 

• Authors are responsible for the inclusion and accuracy of their references. 

• The articles published in PTE voices reflect the research, classroom experiences, and opinions of a wide range of contributing authors and do not constitute policy statements on behalf of the organization.

• PennTESOL welcomes articles that reflect diverse perspectives on practices and issues relevant to those in the TESOL field.
