Call for Proposals Extended Through November 1

PennTESOL-East invites you to submit a proposal for the fall virtual conference to be held on Zoom from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. EST (USA) on Saturday, November 13, 2021. This year’s conference theme is “The Power of Cultural Responsiveness: Creating Fluency in a Responsible Way.”

This day-long event will be provided for free to current PennTESOL-East members. Non-members may attend by joining PTE.

Equitable teaching and learning is key to leading to a more just future, one in which we can meet the needs of our students in a more responsible way. In this year’s conference, we want to reflect on and consider how we might be more culturally responsive in our teaching. You may address any of the below questions in your presentation or identify a topic of your own in relation to this year’s theme. How can we more fully engage all students in a culturally responsive way? How might we create language fluency in a culturally aware fashion? What aspects of students’ backgrounds can we build upon in our classroom spaces so students feel a sense of belonging? How can we use technology to be more culturally responsive? Have we considered how to balance student voices with our pedagogical goals in order to provide more equitable student interactions and collaborations?

We invite you to submit proposals to share your ideas, insights, research, and strategies so that we can all learn together, harness our collaborative efforts, and make commitments that move teaching towards a more just future.

*We will provide information about the Plenary and Keynote speakers once these have been decided by the PTE board (TBD).

We welcome proposals from teaching professionals at all levels. Sessions may include a 30-minute or 60-minute session in a variety of formats: panel, paper, poster, or workshop. 30 minutes = 20 minutes for presentation, 10 minutes for questions; 60 minutes = 45 minutes for presentation, 15 minutes for questions. You will be notified by October 27th about the status of your presentation. To ensure a place on the schedule, you must be a PennTESOL-East member registered for the conference no later than October 30, 2021.

Those who submit proposals must confirm that they have read the evaluation rubric, linked here.

Priority deadline to submit a proposal: October 8, 2021 (these will be viewed first for possible acceptance to the conference)
